Garmin Southern Africa, the global leader in GPS lifestyle technology, are proud to announce their partnership with Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017, as the Official Technical Training Partner for the second year running. This partnership further entrenches Garmin’s commitment to this sport and demonstrates Garmin’s strong and growing position in the on and off road cycling market.

“Garmin are very proud to be part of this event again and as leaders in innovative cycling technology, we are excited to introduce our connected bike to the attendees of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. The connected bike is comprised of a full ecosystem of useful, purpose-built devices for consumers, which help the users stay safer on the roads, capture data and enhance the overall cycling experience,” said Walter Mech, CEO of Garmin Sub Saharan Africa.

Garmin was an early mover and pioneer in the cycling market with GPS cycle computers. The Edge product range caters for every level and discipline of cycling. The advanced Edge 1000 comes with connected features and advanced performance analysis. Edge 1000 is compatible with ANT+™ sensors, including speed, cadence, heart rate and compatible weight scale. The Edge 1000 is also compatible with ANT+ power meters, including Vector®; Garmin’s Vector pedal is a unique pedal-based power meter that measures total power output of the cyclist, measuring left and right balance and cadence.

The Garmin Varia range of products promote safer cycling with the Varia Rear View Radar, the world’s first cycling radar that warns of vehicles approaching from behind up to 140 meters, it wirelessly integrates with compatible Edge devices. The Varia Smart Bike automatically projects further ahead as the cyclists speed increases or closer as a rider’s speed decreases. The latest product announced in this range is the Varia Vision that attaches to the cyclists glasses and projects the data fields onto the lens, so the cyclist does not have to look down at his Edge device.

The Connected Bike experience wouldn’t be complete without the VIRB Ultra 30 action camera which gives the user the ability to prove how far and how fast they really went. The VIRB® Ultra 30 is a waterproof Ultra HD action camera which captures 4K/30fps video with GPS data overlays and features voice control. It can also, integrate with the powerful Garmin ecosystem to extend camera control and pull in additional performance data from your Edge 1000, Vector Pedals and Heart Rate Monitor.

The ever-expanding Garmin sport and wellness segment develops technologies to enhance and promote healthy and active lifestyles. Whether users are runners, cyclists, swimmers, multi-sport athletes, or simply looking to stay active throughout the day, there is a product that can help them reach their health and fitness goals.
